This document tells you how to install and configure the Eudora email client to check your NDSU e-mail.
To install Eudora, you will need to obtain the installer program from Eudora.com (or the qglover user directory for LAN team members) before proceeding with these steps.
Migrate Eudora data if setting up a new computer or re-installing Eudora:
If you do not have any data to save, skip to step 2.
- Before reformatting the old computer or re-installing Eudora, copy the Eudora data directory to a Novell folder. It may be located in one of two locations:
- C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Qualcomm\Eudora
- C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora
- Verify that the folder you copy contains your mailboxes. Both file locations may exist but only one contains the email data.
- Also verify that you save the attachments folder! It may or may not be in the same folder with the rest of Eudora. This depends on the configuration of the old client.
- Verify that the address books are in the Eudora folder--there should be a file called "nndbase" or "rcpdbase" in the Eudora folder.
Install Eudora:
**Note: if you are migrating Eudora data using the above method, you must install the same major version of Eudora as was previously installed. Using Eudora 5.x data with Eudora 6.x will likely corrupt the user data.
- Double-click the Eudora installer program.
- Click Next on the first screen.
- Read the License Agreement and click Yes to continue.
- On the "Choose Components" screen, click Next.
- You will be prompted to select a folder for Eudora to be installed in. Verify that it is "C:\Program Files\Qualcomm\Eudora" and click Next.
- Next you will be prompted to select a folder for the Eudora user preferences to be saved in. The default on Windows XP is C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Qualcomm\Eudora. If you do not use this location, make a note of the location you select --you may need it later.
- Eudora will prompt you to confirm the folder selections before it continues the installation. Click Next.
- After Eudora has finished installing, you will have the option of viewing the "Premium Services Directory Page" or the "Readme file." You can uncheck both of these and click Finish.
Launching Eudora for the first time:
- To open Eudora, double-click the Eudora icon on your desktop (or launch from Start > Program Files).
- Eudora will ask whether it should be the default mail client. You can check "Don't ask me anymore" to prevent this dialogue from appearing in the future, and then click Yes.
- Eudora will prompt you to register/purchase a license, use a ad-sponsored version, or to use a version with reduced capabilities. Purchasing a licensed version is optional and has additional features including Ad-free, full-featured use.
**Click the X button to close this prompt and use the ad-sponsored version.
- At this point, Eudora will run the New Account Wizard to assist you with configuring Eudora. Click Next on the first window of the wizard to continue.
- On the next screen, verify that the "Create a brand new email account" is selected and click Next.
**Note: this means that you will configure Eudora to use your existing NDSU email address, not to generate a different account.
- On the next screen, enter your name in the "Your Name:" field as you want it to be displayed on outgoing email. If you like your email messages to appear in recipients' mailboxes with your nickname, you should type that here. Then click Next.
- In the Email Address screen, type your NDSU email address into the "Email Address:" field. Verify that you entered the email address correctly and click Next.
- On the Login Name screen, enter your NDSU email login in the "Login Name:" field. Verify that you entered the email login correctly and click Next.
- On the Incoming Email Server screen, enter imap.ndsu.nodak.edu into the "Incoming Server" field.
- Check the IMAP button on the Incoming Email Server screen and click Next.
- On the IMAP Location Prefix screen, click NEXT (The "Location Prefix" field should be left blank).
- On the Outgoing Email Server screen, change the "Outgoing Server:" field to read smtp.ndsu.nodak.edu.
- Check the Allow Authentication box and click NEXT.
- Click Finish on the "Success!" page of the Eudora New Account Wizard.
Restore Eudora data:
- If you saved Eudora data in step 1 and want to restore it, first close Eudora.
- Browse to the Eudora preferences folder at C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Application Data\Qualcomm\Eudora or the location you specified in step 7 of the installation.
- Copy the Eudora folder that was saved in backup from the Novell folder to the Qualcomm folder. This will overwrite the existing Eudora folder and restore local mailboxes and address books.
You may see a dialogue asking if you want to overwrite the folder Eudora and all of its contents. Select Yes to All.
