Migrate Outlook data if setting up a new
computer or re-installing Outlook:
If you do not have any data to save, skip to
step 3.
- Before reformatting the old computer or re-installing
Outlook, export the Outlook data to a .pst file.
- In Outlook, go to File > Import
and Export.

- Select Export to a file on the first screen
of the Import and Export Wizard and
clickNext.
- On the next screen, select Personal Folder File
(.pst) and click Next.
- On the next screen, select Personal Folders
and check the Include subfolders checkbox. This
will save all calendar entries, contacts, and mail items stored
locally in Personal Folders. Click Next.

- On the next screen you will be prompted to select a
destination for the exported data. Click on the
Browse button to browse to a location. The
Desktop is suggested for ease of use later on.
- If selecting a unique name for the .pst file, the Options
radio selection is relatively unimportant. If re-using an old
name, Replace duplicates ... is suggested to
prevent duplications of all entries.
- Click Finish.

- In the "Create Microsoft Personal Folders" you can simply
click OK.

Install Outlook:
- If installing Microsoft Office in its entirety, this step
will be taken care of. Be sure to do a complete
installation.
- If installing only the Microsoft Outlook component, be sure
to do a complete installation following the prompts on the Office
installation CD.
Launching Outlook for the first time:

icon on the desktop (or launch from Start > Program
Files).

client. You can check yes or no at your discretion.

verity the Yes radio button is selected and

smtp.ndsu.nodak.edu
- Click Next.

- On the final screen, click Finish.
- Finally, you may be prompted to enter your full name and
initials. This is an "auto-fill" value that all of the Microsoft
Office applications will use in the future.

go to File > Import and Export.

necessary, so often it is easiest to select the highest
level.

- Verify that address books and email folders are populated
with user information.
- If possible, complete this step before formatting an old
