How to change your passwords

Change your NDSU passwords

Requirements for selecting a password:

  1. Use a minimum of 8 characters.
  2. Use characters from at least three of the following character classes:
  • Lower case letters (a b c ...)
  • Upper case letters (A B C ...)
  • Numbers (0 1 2 3 ...)
  • Punctuation ( + $ * @ = ...) *Avoid using % # " '

Suggestions for creating a secure pasword:

  • Do not combine a whole word (in any language) and a string of numbers.
  • Do mix up letters/numbers/symbols throughout.
  • Do not use any personal information.
  • Do use random words/phrases.
  • Do not write password on a note by computer.
  • Do remember your password and keep it secret.

NOTE: Do not use any of the passwords named here.

Instead, create your own personal password.

PASSWORDS ARE LIKE UNDERWEAR - CHANGE THEM OFTEN!

Change your Kerberos password (email, Blackboard, Novell etc.)

Your Kerberos password is used for @ NDSU e-mail, cluster access, Novell, GroupWise, Blackboard, Abacus, SOD cluster, secure wireless LAN, WebDev, and more.)

  1. Go to enroll.nodak.edu.
  2. Enter your Electronic ID and password.
  3. Click on Change Password.
  4. Enter your current (old) password.
  5. Enter your new password.
  6. Enter your new password a second time to verify that you have entered it correctly.

How to change your Windows password

Windows 2000/XP

  • Click CTRL-ALT-DELETE to view the NetWare Security window or the Windows Security window. Select Change Password....
  • In the Change Password window, enter your old (current) password in the Current Password box.
  • In the New Password and Confirm New Password boxes, enter a new password.
  • Click OK to apply the new password.

If you have an ITS-supported computer, call the Help Desk at 231-8685, Option 1, to submit a trouble ticket.

Change your Oracle Calendar (CorpTime) password

  1. Log in to the Corporate Time (Oracle Calendar) client.
  2. Go to Tools in the menu bar.
    • Go to Options in the menu bar for the Macintosh client.
  3. Click Change Password.
  4. Enter Old Password.
  5. Enter New Password.
  6. Click OK.
