At NDSU, Novell file and print services give you a safe location to store files and an easy way of sharing files with other members in the department.
As of late Fall 2005, NDSU automatically generates a service called "desktop_auth" for all Staff, Faculty and Students. This service is created with a randomly generated password. In order to use Novell for the first time, you will need to log into the Enroll page at http://enroll.nodak.edu. and change your current password.
To gain access to your departmental shared drive please contact the Help Desk (231-8685x1) with the information of your department. The request will be verified with your department head before it is processed.
Students:
As with all other IT services at NDSU, it is the responsibility of each department to notify ITS as soon as possible when an employee leaves the University. Accounts must be modified to have the appropriate permissions or be removed entirely upon any personnel changes. This is to protect NDSU resources as well as departmental data, and applies to all faculty, staff and students.
In cases where a move is being made from one department to another, it is important to notify ITS in order to get proper permission changes made in a timely manner.
In order to gain access to a folder owned by another individual or group, you can call the Help Desk (231-8685 x1) and request to get access to that folder. Before this is processed, ITS will verify that you have permission to access this file either with the owner of the file or a department head.
If you want to install the new Novell client yourself, you can download and install the client from the Web. You should close all other applications before continuing.
Select Run again.
Setup will copy files to your local computer.
Select Install Upgrade.
You will be required to reboot.
Can I use the Microsoft client for Novell?
No. The Microsoft client for Novell uses clear text passwords, and the new Novell servers do not accept clear text passwords for security reasons.
Quotas are enforced on the Novell shared drives. Please reference the Novell quota page for more information.
