This document tells you how to troubleshoot Novell login problems. It assumes you have an
active Novell account at NDSU.
"I was just using my computer yesterday and now I can't log in to Novell! What is
the problem?"
- Verify that your username and password have been entered correctly.
- Re-type both your password AND username.
- Verify that CAPS lock has not been activated.
- If you have changed any passwords since the last time you logged in, try the passwords you used
to use.
- Verify the context and server have been entered correctly and try logging on again.
- The server should be netware.ndsu.edu (can be typed into the Server box).
- The context should be Users.NDSU if you are an NDSU staff/faculty and
Students.NDSU if you are an ALA student. This can be typed into the Context
box.
-

- If you still can not log in to Novell, verify the network connection--Novell logins require a network
connection.
- Check the "Workstation Only" checkbox and enter your username and password
again.
- Within Windows, test network connections by opening web pages, such as cnn.com or
yahoo.com--pages that are updated frequently.
- Check your IP address (Start > Run > type CMD > Press OK > type "ipconfig" (no
quotes) in command window. If it is 169.254.xxx.xxx you may need to call the Help Desk at 231-8685
to find out if your computer is being blocked or if the computer hardware is not functioning
properly.
- If the network connection functions, it is possible that Windows networking protocols and/or the
Novell client need to be reinstalled. Please reference the Novell Drives do
Not Map help document.
