If this is the first time you've opened Thunderbird, you may be prompted to Import Settings and Mail folders from… Press Cancel to continue the configuration process.

1. Click Tools and Account Settings
   
2. Click Add Account from below the column on the left
   
3. Highlight Email account and click Continue
4. Enter your name as you would like it to appear on messages that you send
5. Enter your e-mail address
   
6. Select IMAP as the type of incoming server you are using
7. In the Incoming Server field, type imap.ndsu.nodak.edu
8. In the Outgoing Server field, type smtp.ndsu.nodak.edu
9. Click Continue
   
10. Make sure your electronic ID (usually firstname.lastname) is in the Incoming User Name and the Outgoing User name fields
11. Click Continue
    
12. In the Account Name field, enter a descriptive name (e.g. NDSU e-mail)
13. Click Continue
    
14. Verify your account information and then click Done
    
15. Select Server Settings from the column on the left
16. In the Port filed, type 993
17. Under Security Settings select SSL
    
18. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP) from the column on the left
19. Click the Edit button
    
20. In the Description field, type a descriptive name for your account (e.g. NDSU e-mail)
21. In the Port field, type 587
22. Check the box next to Use name and password
23. In the User Name field type your electronic ID (Usually firstname.lastname)
24. Under Use secure connection, select TLS
    
25. Click OK
26. Click OK
