Configure Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
  2. Select Outgoing Server (SMTP).
  3. Click Add (on the right).
  4. Enter smtp.ndsu.nodak.edu as the Server Name. Type 587 in the Port field.
  5. Make sure the box next to Use name and password under Security and Authentication is checked.
  6. Select TLS under Use secure connection.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click the Add Account button.
  9. Select Email Account and click Next.
  10. Enter you name and e-mail address (i.e. firstname.lastname@ndsu.edu).
  11. Click Next.
  12. Choose IMAP for the type of incoming server you are using. The incoming server name is imap.ndsu.nodak.edu.
  13. Click Next.
  14. The User Name will default to your electronic ID (i.e. firstname.lastname).
  15. Click Next.
  16. For the Account Name, you can either keep Thunderbird's suggestion or make up your own.
  17. Click Next.
  18. Click Finish.
  19. Go to Tools > Account Settings
  20. Select Server Settings under your account name
  21. Under the Use secure connection in the Security Settings section select SSL, this should make the Port number above switch to 993
  22. Click OK
  23. Restart Thunderbird
