NDSU and HECN Policies

  • In addition to the policies listed on these pages - it is the responsibility of the individual user of these facilities and services to familiarize themselves with all applicable NDSU policies at http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/policy and HECN policies at http://enroll.nodak.edu and abide by all applicable policies and local, State and Federal laws.
  • According to NDSU and HECN Policies, failure to abide by these policies may result in the individual being referred to the appropriate authority for disciplinary actions.

General Use Policies

The following policies regard using and reserving clusters and checkout equipment, multimedia carts and printing if applicable.

Valid Use
  • Campus Clusters and Equipment are available for recognized NDSU staff, faculty and students.
  • Individuals must have a valid NDSU or Tri-College ID available when using clusters or reserving
    equipment.
  • Tri-College students must be enrolled in at least one class at NDSU during the current semester.
  • Equipment is only available for university related purposes.
  • The intent for laptops or LCD projectors is for instructional aids such as presentations.

 

 

Reservations

  • Equipment may be checked out by NDSU staff, faculty or current and continuing students.
  • Student requests for laptops or LCD projectors must be approved by instructors or organization advisor by using the online form at http://www.ndsu.nodak.edu/helpdesk/laptop.html
  • We reserve the right to not honor a request.
  • Users will be held responsible for lost or damaged equipment.
  • Please cancel reservations for unneeded resources.

 

 

Clusters

Campus Clusters may be used by NDSU staff, faculty or students.

  • Individuals must sign into the cluster machines to use the clusters. Tri-College students must be enrolled in at least one class at NDSU during the current semester in order to use the clusters.
  • There are currently only 4 scheduled updates for cluster software installation. Please refer to this page for these deadlines
  • For basic cluster software see http://www.its.ndsu.edu/professional_services/cluster_support/cluster_software/
  • No food and beverages.
  • No pornography.
  • No setting up of servers.
  • No Gaming unless it's required for university related purposes.
  • Any NDSU department may, subject to availability, reserve a cluster and request temporary authentication for themselves or a group they sponsor. Sponsored groups are considered guests of the university and are subject to the same policies as students, faculty, and staff. Departments making reservations will:
    • 1) Determine who can reserve a cluster on their behalf
    • 2) Be responsible for their guests
    • 3) Provide on-site supervision during their reserved time

 

 

Instrumented Classrooms
  • Contact the Classroom Technology Coordinator for training and keys prior to time needed.
  • There are currently only 4 scheduled updates for instrumented classroom software installation. Instrumented classroom computers contain the same software as all basic clusters. Please refer to this page for these deadlines.
  • Report any problems immediately or right after class.
  • Lock the cabinet at the end of your class period.
  • Lock all remote control units inside the cabinet.
  • Shut off the projector.

 

 

Printing (Clusters and Special Services Printing)
  • NDSU faculty, staff and students can print.
  • Individuals must have a valid NDSU or Tri-College ID available to print and Tri-College students must be enrolled in at least one class at NDSU during the current semester in order to print.
  • We reserve the right to reject any paper, including transparencies that we deem may be harmful to the printers.
  • A plot is considered to be 3'x6'. Anything larger than 3'x6' is charged as more than one plot.
  • Print jobs must be paid for before they are printed.
  • Print jobs are printed in the order they were paid for.
  • Print jobs are not guaranteed to work.
  • Refunds will be given at the discretion of ITS staff.
  • No pornography is allowed.
  • Printing of political/campaign material is only allowed for university related purposes.

Online Requests

Please note that requesting a resource does not mean the resource is reserved. Please check back with us if you do not receive a confirmation within 2 working days that the resource has been reserved for you.

Laptops
  • The intent for laptops is for instructional aids such as presentations.
  • Reservations must be made 72 hours in advance excluding weekends and holidays.
  • Laptops may be checked out for a maximum of 2 consecutive working days.
  • Student requests must be approved by instructors or organization advisors by using the online form at www.ndsu.nodak.edu/helpdesk/laptop.html
  • Special software installation requests must be made four weeks in advance and software licenses must be provided before installing on laptops.
  • In order to serve you better, we only take reservations via the web.

 

 

LCD Projectors
  • The intent for LCD projectors is for instructional aids such as presentations.
  • Reservations must be made 72 hours in advance excluding weekends and holidays.
  • Due to limited resources, projectors may be checked out for a maximum of 2 working days.
  • Individual student's requests must be approved by instructors or organization advisors by using the online form at www.ndsu.nodak.edu/helpdesk/laptop.html
  • In order to serve you better, we only take reservations via the web.

 

 

Checkout Equipment 
  • Checkout Equipment may be checked out for 24 hours and it is first-come first-serve, so reservations are suggested.
  • Includes Digital Camera, remote mice, zip drives, Portable Document Cameras, projector remote control, video camera.

 

Clusters
  • Reservations must be made by a NDSU academic department unit or administrative department unit.
  • Requests for clusters must be made two working days prior to the reservation date.
  • Instructors must be present during the time they have that cluster scheduled.
  • Cluster resources are very limited. Therefore, we request that you use clusters only for hands-on- computing purposes. If you don't require hands-on-computing (if, for example, you intend to lecture), please use a regular classroom. If you do require hands on computing for most days then, we request that only IACC 114, IACC 116, IACC 128, IACC 132 and Morrill 111 be reserved for all class periods during the semester (if they are used mainly for hands-on-computing purposes).
  • In order to serve you better, we only take reservations via the web.

Consequences

  • Users will be held responsible for loss or damage.
Violations by faculty, staff or students
  • All violations will be documented and could result in denial of any or all of ITS services for a period of time.

Note:
  • Additional disciplinary measures may be taken by Student Life personnel (the Associate Director of Student Rights and Responsibilities and/or Residence Life).
  • Pornography violations will be turned over to the appropriate authorities (on campus and/or off campus).
