About the Spam Filter Service
- This is an opt-in service. Note: as of 12/18/2006 we are now deleting all obvious spam.
- You can subscribe for it at http://enroll.nodak.edu
- Please note the special instructions for GroupWise users.
- Defines potential spam.
- Filters spam at two levels
- Allows you to set "safe" and "block sender" lists.
Spam Filter Definitions
- Potential spam
- Very likely that it is spam. Scoring criteria is higher for this category.
- Not Spam
- All e-mail that does not fall into either the obvious or potential categories.
Levels of Filtering
Disabled
- All e-mail including spam is delivered to user's inbox.
Level one
- All Potential spam is delivered to a spam quarantine folder.
Level two
- All Potential spam will be deleted.
Spam quarantine folder
- Dependent on level chosen.
- This is a folder that is created and dropped into the user's e-mail client (Netscape, Outlook,
Eudora, etc.).
- According to the filter level chosen, all e-mail categorized as Potential spam is delivered to this
folder.
- E-mail older than 30 days is purged.
Block and Safe Senders Lists
Block Sender list
- Mail addresses and messages the user does not want delivered to the inbox. The email from the address
specified will always be deleted.
- Example: twinkydog@blooeytunes.com
Safe Sender list
- E-mail addresses and messages the user wants to have bypass all 'Potential spam' checks and delivered
to their inbox (e.g., President Chapman's e-mail address).
- May be managed at http://enroll.nodak.edu.
- Is not required by the filter.
- Does not have to have a filter enabled to be used.
