NDSU has seen viruses with many variants proliferate through campus computers. Some viruses work through the network, others work through e-mail.
Most viruses are silent monsters, attacking and infecting your computer when you least expect it.
To prevent infection, your computer's operating system software and work applications must be up-to-date and current on all security updates, patches, and service packs. all If you aren't current with patching and updating your computer, you will most likely be infected. Be sure the computer has anti virus software installed and enabled. NDSU offers free McAfee anti virus available for download on the Software Downloads page.

Viruses cause downtime, loss of productivity, and loss of network services, to name a few things.
