Communications Specialist

Hours/Week: 15-25
Starting Wage: $9.00/hour
Reports to: ITS Communications Coordinator

The communications specialist will provide ongoing support for ITS communications projects and marketing activities. These include, but are not limited to writing, and editing announcements and messages that will be distributed to specific operational units, the university, the university system and the larger community. The role will also involve assisting with planning and implementing marketing/communication plans, events, and activites.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Communicate regularly with ITS Communications Coordinator to coordinate efforts, activities, and schedules
  • Assist with writing and editing various internal and external messages and documents
  • Assist in planning and implementation of marketing efforts and events
  • Participate in public relations events, such as resource and orientation fairs
  • Participate in meetings and/or committees where appropriate
  • Maintain a high level of professional competency
  • Participate in STS professional development program
  • Adhere to STS work practices
  • Deal with sensitive situations and information in a confidential manner
  • Work safely
  • ITS student employees are required to attend two professional development seminars each semester. The goal of the STS professional development program is to create opportunities for ITS student employees to gain valuable technical and life skills that will help them prepare for future careers as they provide quality IT services for ITS and the NDSU community, plus the student employee is paid to attend the two seminars. In addition, completing two professional development seminars is one of the minimum requirements to be eligible for semester raises.

Minimum Qualifications for Employment

  • Sophomore standing or higher
  • Minimum GPA of 2.8
  • Excellent written communication skills
  • Good oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications for Employment

  • Competence in journalistic writing, particularly Associated Press Style
  • Graduate student-position may be eligible as an assistantship, depending approval by academic department
  • Graphic design experience
