Assistant Sponge Coordinator

Hours/week: 20-25
Reports to: Technology Learning Center Manager/Sponge Coordinator
Starting Wage: $11.00/hour

The assistant Sponge coordinator will work with the Sponge coordinator to assist faculty members who assign technology-intensive class projects, such as Web sites, PowerPoint presentations, electronic portfolios, spreadsheets, publications (brochures, newsletters), and videos. Sponge services include help with project planning, identifying and documenting best methods, training sessions for students (during class time or outside class time), online learning resources, and individual or small group assistance with projects for students on a walk-in or by-appointment basis.

Candidates must be able to work 20-25 hours per week, with the majority of hours worked between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. A graduate student is preferred for this position. This position may qualify as a graduate assistantship.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist faculty with project planning
  • Research project creation to identify best methods
  • Provide instructor-led training and workshops as requested by instructors
  • Assist students with projects in the lab when necessary
  • Inform TLC student employees of current and upcoming student projects
  • Assist with training student employees on best methods for completing class projects
  • Assist with training and mentoring student employees who provide training for classes
  • Create, edit, and update documentation for Sponge Web site
  • Develop and implement assessment methods to evaluate project success (in terms of support provided by the Sponge program)
  • Assist with supervising TLC student employees
  • Assist with planning and leading weekly meetings for TLC employees
  • Keep records of Sponge activities and TLC walk-in contacts
  • Assist with advertising and marketing for the Sponge program

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Basic computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, basic web development)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience
  • Some knowledge of the use of technology in education
  • Experience with multimedia hardware and software
