We're very excited about some NEW options available this summer:
Access 2007
This summer we've decided to try something a little different - two Access classes are available: "Access 2007 Basics" and "Access 2007: Designing Your Database."
The "Access 2007 Basics" class introduces you to the basic skills you need to use an existing Access database effectively. Plus, you'll learn how to create new tables, queries, forms, and reports and enter and manipulate data in your database.
This class is appropriate for those new to using Access databases. If you've used Access in the past, it will also be helpful if you have recently upgraded to Access 2007 or are planning to do so in the near future. You'll get a chance to 'learn your way around' the new Access 2007 interface!
"Access 2007: Designing Your Database" is intended to help you understand how to properly
design an effective database in Access. Just as you wouldn't attempt to build a house without a blueprint,
you shouldn't create a database without a plan. This class will focus on the key aspects of good database
design and you'll look at the steps required to design a useable and accurate database.
Wimba Web Conferencing
At some point soon you may be asked to participate in a meeting or class using the Wimba Web conferencing tool now available to NDSU and NDUS users. Be prepared ahead of time -- attend a "Get to Know the Wimba Web Conferencing Tool" class to learn what you need to know to participate in a Wimba Web conference before you need it! We have three different class sections available this summer -- we hope you'll be able to find one that fits your schedule!
Word 2007 By the Tabs
Office 2007 features the new "Office Ribbon" which groups logically related commands onto several different tabs on the Ribbon, rather than burying them in the more familiar menu system used in previous Office versions.
"Word 2007 By the Tabs" is a new way to learn what each tab on the Ribbon in Word 2007 has to offer. Rather than just hitting the high points of Word, in this class we'll look at all of the features that are available on each tab in order. You'll learn how to use those features in your day to day use of Word!
CMS (TYPO3) Training
You may have heard that ITS has adopted a new Content Management System (CMS) called TYPO3 for authoring and maintaining content on Web pages residing within the www.ndsu.edu domain.
Several departments on campus have already begun using the CMS system for this purpose, and ITS has provided CMS Training to people in those departments as needed.
Beginning immediately, these CMS Training classes are now available to the rest of the campus. If your department will be moving your Web page content to the new CMS system in the near future, you'll want to attend these classes! We have three different sections available in July and August, with each section providing seven class hours spread across three class periods.
We will continue offering these CMS Training classes on an on-going schedule. If your department is not yet ready to transition to the CMS system, you may wait to attend training closer to the time when you are ready to use TYPO3.
