Blackboard 7.2: Using My Files (The Content System)

In this class you'll learn what you need know to effectively use the new "My Files" tab -- a virtual file storage area now available to all NDSU faculty, staff, and students (it's like having a secure, easy-to-use "online hard-drive" accessible from anywhere in the world!)

Once you learn how to upload files to this Content System, linking to the files from your courses or organizations is a breeze, and you can easily use the same files in multiple courses and organizations. If you need to modify a file stored in My Files, you can make the change once and the revised document is automatically updated in all of the places where it is being used.

My Files allows you to drag-and-drop multiple files into the Blackboard system for effortless file uploading. You can also use My Files to store, access, and/or share files that are not used within a course or organization context. Files stored here can be shared with others through the use of "permissions."

Here's what we'll cover:

  • The advantages of using My Files
  • Creating and managing folders
  • Adding files to My Files
  • Using Web Folders for drag-and-drop file uploading and modifying files
  • Creating links from within courses or organizations to the files and folders stored in My Files
  • Using the Course Link Checker to check the validity of links from your courses to files in the My Files area
  • Copying files currently uploaded to a course or organization into your My Files area
  • Modifying file and folder properties
  • Managing file and folder permissions to control and/or allow others access to your files
  • Managing file versioning
  • Locating files other users have given you access to
  • Creating bookmarks to file locations
  • Establishing workflows for efficient group collaboration and file sharing
