Blackboard 8.0: Assignments - A Better Digital Dropbox!

The Assignment feature differs a bit from Blackboard's Digital Dropbox that you may have used in the past to exchange files with students. Assignments are superior in several ways to the Digital Dropbox. This relatively new tool combines the file exchange capabilities of the Digital Dropbox with the organization and management functionality of the Gradebook.

The Blackboard "Assignment" feature allows greater interactivity (file exchange and feedback) between the instructor and students, assignments are automatically linked to the appropriate item in the gradebook for easy grading, the Assignments feature also makes it easy to keep track of files submitted by students, and it's easy to download and/or delete files students submit. Using the Assignment feature eliminates emailed files getting "lost in cyberspace", and all files submitted for an Assignment are stored in one easy to access location.

This class will focus on the Assignment feature in Blackboard and why and how to use it.

Here's what you'll learn:

  • How to create a new Assignment and attach any necessary files to the Assignment for students to download
  • How students submit assignment files to the instructor
  • How to view and/or assign grades to an Assignment in the Blackboard Gradebook
  • How to download student file submissions for offline viewing, grading, and/or storage
  • How to delete files students submitted for an Assignment from Blackboard

Prerequisites: Familiarity with the Blackboard system.
