Blackboard 8.0: Using the Grade Center

Most of the parts of Blackboard you know and love will look familiar in Blackboard 8; HOWEVER, the Blackboard Gradebook has been completely redesigned - in fact, the change is so significant Blackboard decided to rename the Gradebook to the "Grade Center"!

Blackboard's new Grade Center is a very useful tool for managing student grades for all course activities and assignments. This session illustrates the existing and new or changed features available in the Grade Center. Learn how to use the Grade Center effectively!

If you use (or will use) Blackboard's Gradebook, you'll definitely want to attend this session to find out what you'll need to know to use the Grade Center!

Some of the exciting changes in the new Grade Center include:

  • The ability to freeze columns (similar to spreadsheet capabilities)
  • View students' last access date from Grade Center
  • All students displayed on one page in Grade Center - great for large classes
  • Can quickly show or hide individual students and/or columns
  • Customizable report generation from Grade Center
  • Inline cell editing (spreadsheet functionality!)
  • Send email directly from Grade Center
  • Ability to exempt individual students from a graded item
  • View gradebook by selected users
  • Upload multiple items/grades from spreadsheet to Grade Center at once
  • And many more!

  • Powerful new features in the Grade Center!
  • Entering/changing student grades
  • Creating and managing Grade center entries
  • Exporting Grade Center data to an Excel spreadsheet
  • Uploading Grade Center data from a spreadsheet back into the Blackboard Grade Center
  • Using the Grade Center to manage assignment files uploaded by students, providing feedback on those assignments, and grading them
  • Weighting grades by item or by category in the Grade Center
  • Changing the default grade display from scores to percentages, letter grades, or text and creating a customized letter grade scale

Prerequisites: Experience using the Blackboard system.
