CMS (TYPO3) Quick Start Training

If your department has made the decision to use the free TYPO3 Content Management System (CMS) for authoring and maintaining content on Web pages residing within the www.ndsu.edu domain, this class is for you!

TYPO3 allows you to focus on creating and maintaining content on the Web without learning how to produce complex HTML or other complicated programming code. The CMS template creates the page design and you just add the content! As an added benefit, your content automatically complies with current accessibility and usability standards.

In this 2-hour class we'll focus on just the basic information you need to know to get started using the CMS. Once you learn the basics you'll be able to start working on your site and come back for more in-depth training later.

Here's what we'll cover:

  • What is TYPO3 (CMS)?
  • How to request a site and how to request access to it
  • Logging in to the TYPO3 "backend"
  • Navigating the TYPO3 screens (interface)
  • What's created for you?
  • Creating a new page
  • Creating and editing page content
  • Moving content from the webdev server into CMS pages
  • Basic text formatting
  • Previewing your pages
  • Publishing pages to the Web (the CMS Workflow)
  • Making the new site "live" to the world (the Go Live process)
  • How to learn more and where get Help!

Prerequisites: Familiarity with basic Windows or Macintosh computer operations. Familiarity with the Firefox or Internet Explorer browsers. Ability to Copy/Paste content. No prior Web page creation experience is required!
