Access 2007 Database Basics

Most organizations maintain and manage large amounts of information. One of the most efficient and powerful ways of managing this data is by using relational databases. Access is one of the most popular relational databases.

In this class you'll learn the basic skills you need to get started using Access databases and managing the data they contain. You'll also discover the advantages and benefits of using a relational database application.

On completion of this class you'll be able to:

  • Understand basic database concepts and terminology and navigate the new Access 2007 interface
  • Decide when you should use Excel and when it's best to use Access to store and manage data
  • Build a simple database and create tables to store the data
  • Navigate, edit and delete data in your tables
  • Use queries to extract exactly the information you need
  • Use forms for data entry and/or inquiry
  • Run reports for printing or on-screen display

Prerequisites: Familiarity with basic concepts of working with the PC, good working knowledge of the Windows operating system. Prior knowledge of databases is not necessary.
