How To Capture Web Images

When "borrowing" images from the Web, it is important to adhere to copyright laws. The best thing to do would be to request permission to use a graphic, especially if any profit will result from the use of it.

For more information, see the Copyright: Fair Use Practices for Students document. This document briefly describes copyright guidelines and also provides many links to copyright-friendly Web sites where you can get photos and music.

How to save an image from the Web:

  1. Once you have the image on your screen, place your cursor on it and press the right mouse button (Windows). A sub-menu will appear on the screen.
  2. Choose "Save Picture As..." (or a similarly titled option) from the menu and the "Save Picture" (or similar) window will pop up.
  3. Direct the "Save in:" prompt to the drive and folder you want to save the picture in.
  4. You can change the "File name:", but you generally don't want to change the "Save as type:"
  5. Press "Save" to save the image from the Web to the location you chose.
  6. Note: Often Web sites have an "images" folder where you put all images.
